With the South’s most dynamic and thriving arts scene, Atlanta offers art lovers wonderful venues for exploring themselves through art, photography, fashion, and history.

In this blog we will tour museums and galleries to find the best spots for you to try on your next Atlanta adventure! Whether your interests lay in abstract expressionism, art deco, pop art, contemporary art, fashion, design, or puppetry arts, Atlantans truly have a plethora of wonderful art to see!

Atlanta’s High Museum of Art

The pinnacle of Southern art museums, The Atlanta High Museum of Art is an expansive and architecturally stunning sanctuary for many genres of art. Located on Peachtree street in Midtown, the High is a division of the Woodruff’s Art Center in the middle of the city’s arts district. The High beckons pedestrians with its grand white and metal facade and interesting architectural lines and will not disappoint once you enter its many levels of exhibitions.

Atlanta Insider Tip: Jazz lovers should visit the High every third Friday of the month to enjoy drinks, art, and lovely jazz music. It’s a classy outing great for friends or a special date!

MODA Museum of Design Atlanta

Also located in Atlanta’s Midtown Arts District, MODA is the only museum is the Southeast entirely devoted to the celebration and study of all things design. Exhibits showcase how design affects people’s daily lives and feature architectural, industrial, product, furniture, graphics, fashion design and more!

Coffee lovers will enjoy the current exhibition “Passione Italiana: The Art of Espresso”, closing June 15th  2019. This exhibit showcases the beauty of espresso machine design. See all upcoming exhibits here.

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia

Located near the Georgia Institute of Technology, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia is a free admission museum presenting over 100 local, national, and international artists. The exhibitions pay particular attention to Southeastern artists of consequence. Atlanta Contemporary is one of the few local art organizations that commission new works, so you can stay relevant with all the newest local artists! See their exhibit schedule here.

SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film

Curious about couture? Located in Atlanta’s art district, the SCAD Fash Museum is an offset of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The museum displays glamorous gowns, designer garments, and costumes made for the cinema. See their exhibit schedule here.

Center for Puppetry Arts

Did you know that Atlanta has a whole museum dedicated to the art of puppetry? Showcasing puppets from across the globe, this child-friendly museum is a wonderful part of the Atlanta’s art district. View fun exhibits like Game of Thrones-themed “Game of Puppets”, see an entire exhibit showcasing puppets from the film “The Dark Crystal”, or make your own puppet in a workshop.
